Hi there, my name is Britney and I blog over at J&M's Eye Candy with my sister in law Kristine.
We created our blog as a place where we can collectively archive our projects and share it with others like you. We hope that you are taking the time and enjoying crafting, whether it's during nap time, after work, and/or late at night like we do.
We blog about crafts, our families, recipes, fashion and we love us a linky party or two! Check us out on Tuesdays for "Help a Momma Out!," where you can link up and read fun mom stories, advice, crafts anything relating to helping a momma out! And our fun "Strut Your Stuff Sundays" party where you have a chance to show off your latest creations and of course browse amazing talent from other bloggers!

I am so excited not only to be the very first guest poster for Brassy Apple, but for this whole series!!  This is going to be so awesome I just know it, and I am so honored to be a part of it all!  Thank you Brassy Apple.

This year I was all gung ho about sewing my two school aged children every thing they needed for school, clothes, back packs, lunch bags, the whole she-bang, but then I woke up and remembered that my sewing skills are mediocre at best.  Well, not wanting to let go of the dream completely I came up with a way that even a so-so sewer can create things for "Back to School."

My plan of attack was to enhance an ordinary plain back pack that I got at Wal-Mart for $5.00 into something unique and super cute using my sewing machine and my limited knowledge of all things sewing related.   I started with this.  Can we all say, "cheater" that's me for buying a bag already sewn together.

Next I found an owl that I liked on my Silhouette software.  If you don't have a Silhouette, I found this cute pattern that would work great.  I cut it out on my machine, and then traced it onto fabric.  Then cut out the fabric.

After all pieces were cut, I sewed them all together.

Before I sewed it onto the backpack I added button eyes.

Isn't she looking so cute?

Next step sew on to the backpack.  I pinned it all down, and went to town.

I added some feathers to the zippers, and it is all done!  The dream lives on!

Thank you again Brassy Apple for having me today!  Happy "Back to School-ing" everybody!
