Why no love, Apple?

iPhone touch
It's not all love for the iPhone today — Apple just announced that Mail, Maps, Stocks, Notes and Weather are all coming to the iPod touch.

New touch owners get 'em all for free, but all of you early adopters will have to cough up: the bundle is going to set you back a whopping 20$.

The new Maps app can't use cell-based location-finding like on the iPhone, but it can still figure out where it is using SkyHook's Wi-Fi hotspot database.

The touch also supports webclips and the reconfigurable home screen now, but we're a little unsure why all this has to cost 20$ — why no love, Apple?

Apple MacBook Air

MacBook

Yeah, pretty much sexy. Every element is super sharp, the hidden ports are a thing of beauty, and the backlit keyboard is certainly a nice touch. It's almost silly how light it is, and multitouch is smooth as butter. With the dimensions and curves Apple is playing with, we can almost forgive the lack of removable battery — almost.

Modbook OS X

wacom
Welcome to 2008, readers, and if Axiotron's announcement that its long-awaited Modbook is finally shipping — several weeks ahead of schedule — is any indication, it looks to be a good year indeed for consumer electronics fans.

First unveiled nearly a year ago at MacWorld 2007, the MacBook-based, Wacom-modified Modbook has definitely seen its share of delays, although in the days and months since, the 13.3-inch slate has gained the distinction of being one of the few pieces of non-Cupertino, Apple-approved hardware.
The world's first OS X tablet can be yours immediately starting at 2,290$.

ModBook ready — Go-Go!

ModBook

Our friends at jkOnTheRun recently got word from Axiotron that the long fabled ModBook, which you might recall from Macworld 2007, is going to ship on or around January 8th, 2008 a year since it was announced. Since the ModBook has been delayed so much, its specs have changed.
It is now running Leopard, the GPS option is standard (formerly $99), and the specs reflect the latest MacBook hardware rev (since the ModBook is basically a MacBook converted into a tablet with a pressure sensative touch screen).

All of this starting at 2279.00$. Here's hoping that Apple doesn't rev the MacBook at Macworld this year, for Axiotron's sake.

Top-5 competitor iPhons

Diposting oleh fawaid on Jumat, 03 April 2009

Since the introduction of the Apple iPhone on January the 9th, the world has gone touch pad crazy, touch pad technology is the way of the future and many companies have heard the call and made their own touch pad phones in direct competition with the iPhone.
This is a top five list of iPhone Competitors, some of the phones are the real deal, some are just concepts at the moment, all are cool.

1. HTC Touch

HTC Touch
The HTC Touch uses TouchFLO touchscreen technology that was developed by HTC. It runs Windows Mobile 6 and a rotating “cube” shows you icons for your contacts, music, and more.
Unfortunately there’s no Wi-Fi which is one of the down-sides to this phone, but it is fairly affordable at 250$ from Sprint after instant savings and a mail-in rebate.

2. LG Voyager

LG Voyager
The LG Voyager is priced at about 299.99$ from Verizon Wireless with a 2-year contract. Of course it’s touchscreen like the iPhone but also includes a physical keyboard that pops-out.
Overall it does look pretty sleek and includes Ev-DO support, but doesn’t have Wi-Fi.

3. Samsung Instinct

Samsung Instinct
Samsung’s Instinct hasn’t reached the stores yet, but from the looks if it, it’ll be a great competitor to the iPhone. Gizmodo says that it may be the best stab at the iPhone yet! As far as size goes, in dimension and weight, it’s about the same as the iPhone. Even with battery life, it’s right up there with with 5.75 hours of talk-time. Sprint will be the one to carry this one for an estimated 200—250$.

4. Garmin Nuvifone

Garmin Nuvifone
Sometime this year in the 3rd quarter we’ll be seeing the Garmin Nuvifone hit the market. The phone will be big on GPS and helping you navigate, and will feature an on-screen keyboard like the iPhone.
Just a few days ago, rumor started floating around that it will be sold to AT&T subscribers for a whopping $500! While it may be pricey, that GPS could be worth it!

5. Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1
Yet another phone that is expected later this year is the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1.
It’ll have a full QWERTY keyboard, and will run on the Windows Mobile 6 operating system.
What will be unique with this phone is a “paneled” interface and an “optical” joystick for easy web scrolling.
The price is expected to be over 400$, so it’ll definitely be on the hi-end of the pricing spectrum.

Pencil me in

Diposting oleh fawaid on Rabu, 01 April 2009

My save the date for Miss Branch's upcoming nuptials arrived in my lonely little mailbox today. And knowing Ginny, they're not just any save the dates, but personalized pencil saves the dates, to boot! I freaking love this girl, so witty and sweet and charming!

(Shh... I already took one before she sent them out, so now I have two.)

New pencils are such a morale booster, especially when they have your name on them (see exhibit A and B).

My favorite "pencil design" website has over 40 pencil color options to keep me busy for hours, because, lord knows, there's nothing else I should be doing.
