Apple Announces Low End Education iMac

Want an iMac for less than $1,000? Of course you do. Apple's currently offering a Core i3 iMac for just $999. Unfortunately, you'll have to be buying for your school to get in on this deal. For that $999, you get a dual core 3.1Ghz i3 processor, a 21.5 inch screen, 2GB of ram, 250GB of hard drive space, and an AMD RadeonHD 6750 with 256mb of dedicated graphics memory.

Sure, it's not the top of the line. But for less than $1,000, what were you expecting? It comes with Lion, which Apple recommends a minimum of 2GB of ram to run. If personal experience has taught me anything, it's better to go with something better than the minimum. You could upgrade the ram to 4GB, or just throw in an extra $150 to get a faster, quad core i5 processor, larger hard drive, more memory, and a better graphics card. Truthfully, it's a great deal for just an extra $150. However, if you care more about saving money than raw processing power (or you're buying in bulk) then this is a great deal for you. Apple also offers an even older $899.99 model, but you may want to go with the newer model for $100 more. If you're buying for an institution, you can create a quote through Apple's education store.
