Mac Book Pro

Apple's taking all that new MacBook Pro love and shrinking it down to size for the all-new MacBook. The laptop includes those same NVIDIA 9400M graphics, Mini DisplayPort plug, new manufacturing method, backlit keyboard and fancy glass trackpad of its big sibling, but does it with a 13.3-inch LED-backlit screen and typically friendly MacBook pricepoints.

The laptop is 0.5 pounds lighter than its plastic predecessor, 0.95-inches thick, and Apple's also claiming 5 hours of battery life here, but we'll have to wait and see how realistic that number is. The base model weighs in at 1299$ with a 2GHz Core 2 Duo processor, while 1599$ gets you 4GB of RAM and a 320GB HDD.

There's also an SSD option if you're really looking to splurge. If none of the new speed or style appeals to you, Apple's also slashing its existing low-end MacBook to 999$, which is still a bit steep if you ask us.

iPhone box

While most of the Apple product are nice in white color scheme, the white iPhone 3G only get the sexy part on its back cover. When you are looking at the white iPhone 3G from the front, it actually looks like the black iPhone 3G.
Turning to the back view gives you a nice white shiny cover, but from the side view it is just weird.

Gold MacBook

Gold MacBook

The MacBook Air by itself is pretty pricey considering the kind of hardware you get, but Computer Choppers has decided to go the extra mile by producing a 24 karat gold plated version of the MacBook Air instead.
I don't think anyone who purchased this will be using it in public, considering the 5,000$ price tag attached to it along with the dangers of scratches and knocks when carried around. It will still be light though despite all that bling — King Midas would've approved of this back in his day.

3G iPhone store

iPhone 3GThe back of the 3G iPhone looks ceramic or fiberglass or plastic that they made to look like ceramic or fiber glass.

The camera on the top left, though, looks weirdly located. Ca one actually point and shoot with that thing right there?

Of course, with this 3G version is also the iPhone SDK adding new software to the iPhone via the App Store.

Commenters on iPod Observer… ahem, observed that this iPhone may be shorter or smaller than the original. Well, hope it fits better in my pocket.

Reviews the MacBook Air

MacBook Air
As you probably know, I'm one of the people who, upon first opportunity after the Macworld Keynote ended a few weeks ago, exited the hall into the lobby of Moscone West and immediately ordered a MacBook Air — the 1.6 Ghz version with the 80GB hard drive, to be exact. I've already spelled out my reasons for ordering one and you've all had a chance to comment and otherwise make your views known, good or bad, regarding my decision.

Now, after waiting for Apple to ship my MacBook Air to me, its finally here and in my hands. In fact, I'm writing this very review on it.
So, now that it's here and I can examine it more closely, use it and otherwise put it through its paces, does it live up to my expectations?
Will I really miss not having Firewire or more than one USB port?
Will the MBA become my notebook of choice or now that I can actually use it, do I regret ordering?
For those answers, and more, read on.

Size and Weight

First, let's talk about what many people (particularly Apple) are talking about: how thin and light the MacBook Air is. At 3 pounds and .76' thick, the MBA is the lightest and thinnest notebook I've ever used and for me, the weight in particular was a major deciding factor in getting the MacBook Air. Now that I have had a chance to carry it around in my bag for a day or so, I can say the lack of weight makes an even bigger difference than I originally thought.

To be sure, nobody has ever called me small or weak in the past so its not that I can't carry a couple extra pounds around in the form of a notebook and associated peripherals. Its just that if I don't have to, why should I?
The MBA being this small and light and still feeling solid and very usable makes for a winning combination. And let's not forget that the MBA's power brick is very small and light as well.

The power brick for the MBA is even smaller and weighs less than the one used by the MacBook, so that makes a difference too, especially as I'm used to carrying the giant brick for the MacBook Pro. If you still can't imagine how little 3 pounds is or how really small the power brick is, head to your local Apple store and heft one for yourself. Then, go pick up a MacBook Pro.
The difference is pretty amazing...
