Market Leaders Make Thin Client Computing Easy/Affordable for Global Educators

Today three major market leaders are coming together to create a new era in Thin Client computing for education and emerging markets, where a complete PC for every person isn’t affordable or practical.

The ultra-convenient solution makes thin client computing available in larger installations than ever – up to ten seats per host. And with DisplayLink USB virtual graphics technology, it is an out-of-the-box thin client system that has the potential to save thousands of dollars compared to traditional thin client solutions.

· Microsoft introduced, last week, Microsoft Multipoint Server 2010 – a thin client OS that gives the host and up to ten users a complete Windows-7 like experience at each client.

· HP yesterday announced HP’s MultiSeat Thin Client solution– a thin client device that connects to the main PC via a single, easy USB cable and manages all client desktop peripherals including mouse, keyboard, monitor and more. (MultiSeat illustration.)

· Today DisplayLink announced it is providing drivers for the Microsoft Multipoint Server 2010, and the virtual graphics technology used by HP MultiSeat t100 Thin Client. DisplayLink USB virtual graphics technology uses familiar USB connectivity between the thin client and the host, thereby eliminating the need for running many cables, installing multiple graphics cards and other proprietary hardware in the host. Now thin client computing can be powered by desktop systems and sold at a fraction of the cost of today’s server architectures.

· Shared Resource Computing allows instructors or “hosts” to share an individual computer with 10 client OS sessions to surf the web, share documents and work independently from a single PC or notebook computer. This solution has the power to extend the reach of technology in learning environments like classrooms, labs, and libraries thereby giving more students access to Windows technology that can help them to learn, share, produce, communicate and positively impact their future employability.

Finally, low cost computing is a reality.
