A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.......
a little boy turned one year older and wanted to have a Star Wars birthday party!
Just thought I would share how we put on a great boy's birthday bash - and if you tweak the games we played they would be great for a summer activity with friends!
We had Star Wars themed music playing as the guests arrived.
1st Activity was to earn their "jedi robes"
They each had a turn to run an obstacle course we created with boxes, chairs, a slide, ball, etc. Have fun with what you have! The last obstacle was the "de-head" Darth Maul with a lightsaber! (a ball on top of the tee ball stand with a mask)
The boys LOVED IT! They had a chance to defeat one of the bad guys. Each boy was presented with a JEDI Robe - Brown fabric with a slit cut for the head and yarn or string for the tie around the waist. I used the freezer paper technique to stencil on the STAR WARS logo in white. Then they got to pick out a Star Wars temporary tattoo.
Traditional birthday party games were played including PIN the blast on the starship.....divided into two teams of good vs. evil
Musical Chairs....again using star wars music
and the always popular PINATA! I couldn't find a Star Wars themed pinata locally so what did I do? Crafted one up of course!!! I took a soccer ball pinata.....
and with a little vision, spray paint and a brush - created the DEATH STAR!!! (be kind. It's my first Death Star - LOL)
They all LOVE being able to beat the heck out of the DEATH STAR and watch it "blow up" and be destroyed!
Of course we need CAKE! I used some of my sons Star Wars figures and created a scene from the end of the 3rd star wars movie. I melted some chocolate chips and spread them out fairly thin on a cookie sheet lined with foil and lightly sprayed. Pop that into the freezer. Frosted the cake with red frosting for the lava and then broke the chocolate I had frozen into pieces to look like the land was breaking up in the lava. A little frosting on the bottoms of the characters feet to keep them in place and VOILA!
Party Favors: Everyone went home with their JEDI ROBE as a souvenir, a bag of goodies from the pinata and custom Star Wars cookie! These are soooo cool!!!A HUGE shout out to Doughmesstic for these!
We printed off a group picture and made Thank you cards which were sent a few days after the party!
SO - no summer birthdays in your family? Use some of these themed ideas to entertain your kids and neighborhood this summer! Create an obstacle course or better yet, let the kids set up the course, play musical chairs outside or try the freezer paper technique and create some unique summer tees! Have fun!!!
