Amazon's New Kindles

Amazon has been busy. Today, Amazon announced their new tablet, the Kindle Fire, the latest Kindle Touch, and an update to the Kindle. The Kindle Touch and Kindle updates were evolutionary, but very noticeable updates. The brand new Fire, however, is a new type of Kindle, and it's going up to bat against Android tablets and, in some ways, even the iPad. Read up on each new device below.

Amazon Releases Kindle Web App

Worried about using Kindle on iOS without the store links? Just start using Amazon's new Kindle Cloud Reader. You can check it out here. The new reader will work in Chrome or Safari, including mobile Safari on iOS. If you don't like the fact that you can't access the Kindle store right from the app anymore, maybe you should bookmark Amazon's Cloud Reader on your iOS device. Apple has often told developers that if they would like to bypass the App Store rules, they should make web apps. It looks like Amazon has finally taken Apple up on their offer, and they've done a decent job with it as well.

Apps like Amazon's Kindle app and Google's Reader have been faced with a dilemma. Within the App Store guidelines, it states that apps that sell products or services must do them within the app, not by sending the user to the vendor's website. However, until today, to buy books through these apps, the user had to go into Safari, buy the book, and then go back into the app to sync with his or her online account. This is an annoying process, and it would be much easier to simply buy the books within the app. Apple thought so too, so they set a deadline, and asked app developers to comply with the guidelines or be removed from the app store.
