Burner covers part 2 - Decoupage it!

Ready for more? Part 1 was revealed last week! I have loved reading your comments and emails! don't forget to share your finished projects!

This week:

Decoupage it!

supplies:

Burner Covers - I buy the 2pk from the $1.00 store! (yup only .50 each for this project!!!)

Fabric or Scrapbook paper

Mod Podge
Brush

Magnets

Paint the edges of the Burner Cover first if desired using spray paint. 

Turn the burner cover over and trace around the circle on the wrong side of the fabric or scrapbook paper. 

Cut out and apply Mod Podge onto the top. Let dry. 

Create magnets by using my tutorial HERE

Hang or place on a plate stand! Useful for many rooms of the house. Can be used as a magnet board to hold recipes, notes, photos, etc.

Burner covers part 1 - paint it!

Who's ready to get crafty! I hope you will be inspired to create some of these same projects or spin offs! I LOVE to see what you have created from the ideas shared here in the Brassy Apple Flickr group!

I have several tutorials to share with ideas all centered around using Burner covers! YUP - burner covers!  In this day and age of flat top ranges and gas stoves these babies can be used in new ways! 

Paint it! 

supplies:

Magnets

Cover the desired number of Burner covers with spray paint and let dry. 

Add the details as necessary with a marker or paint pen or paint brush.

Hang on your wall for a fun FUNCTIONAL art piece! Left just as it they add color and interest but they can also serve as a magnet board to display pictures, school work, photos, etc.....

EXTRA IDEAS!!! - Think of how FUN these would be too add a 3D polka dot to a child's wall or how about using it as the center of a flower on the playroom wall ( you could even use the fabric wall art technique to create the petals and stem!)

Creative Nursery........

So it all started from a whim I got to create a quilt for my sister's upcoming baby girl. I dropped it by and she fell in the love with the colors and patterns and got the "bug" to design and create her nursery in something she really loved! We searched around for the perfect fabrics and found some great deals plus had some help from my twitter friends. (thank you!)

Then she went on create the bedding, accessories and art all on her own to satisfy that "nesting" instinct. The nursery turned out beautifully! It's a wonderful mix of Sandi Henderson's Farmers Market and Ginger Blossom fabric lines. It's girly pink but so much more with all the wonderful colors! Great job Sis!........enjoy the photos........

Trash to Treasure results!....framed pear tutorial

Here's my Trash to Treasure project:
FRAMED PEAR tutorial

Supplies:

Frame

paper

printer/or stamp and ink

paint

glue

plastic pear

scissors

sandpaper

knife

STEP 1: Take and frame and paint it your color of choice. I rummaged my frame out of my Moms donation box. It was missing the cardboard backing but that's OK! Once the paint it dry I sanded a few of the edges with sandpaper to achieve that "worn/aged" look I love so much!

STEP 2: Create, stamp, print or photocopy what you would like in the background. Vintage sheet music, fancy writing, favorite design, use scrapbook paper or stamps, etc to get the design you would like! Then trace around the glass piece from the frame to get the correct size. Cut.

STEP 3: Layer your paper then glass and cardboard backing piece and place in the frame. I was missing the card piece in the back so I simply cut one from a box I had laying around.

STEP 4: Cut your artificial pear in half lengthwise with a knife. *A word of caution. I figured the pear would be full of styrofoam but mine had a small concrete weight in the center of it. I had to cut around that and peel the pear open.* Pick the side you like best and set aside. I kept the one with the stem on it.

STEP 5: Apply glue to the back of your pear and place in the center of your frame. I tried HOT glue and it melted the styrofoam so I used a regular clear glue and waited for it to dry.

Place your new decor in the perfect little spot and enjoy! Now aren't you so crafty!?!

Contrast and creativity......personal touches

I think everyone gets the "bug" to spruce up their home with something fresh as the Spring/Summer season rolls around. I certainly do!! I have been wanting to re-do a few rooms in my house so I loved reading this latest post on the 30days blog where she talks about adding personal touches to your home.

I thought I would share a few quick snapshots I took at my moms house the other day. I have always loved the punch of black the storage cabinets at the end her hallway make. When they bought the house they were just natural stained wood. A simple coat of black paint and updated hardware adds personality and interest. (Notice the nice black window frame on the wall too? Like daughter like mother! ) Plus I have always loved the natural round wreath hung about the cabinets. And oh yeah - I have one of those too! *snicker*

Another fun creative personal touch is her "drawer". She took an old drawer and hung it on the wall to help showcase these very old kitchen tools which were my great grandmothers. And because the best part of the funky old drawer is the drawer front - she pulled it and attached it so it can be seen and showcased as well! Good job MOM! Doesn't seem to take much to add a little personal touch of your own to you home! Have any you want to share? let me know.....

DIY - Picture This Tutorial

(Be sure to upload your photos from trying this project into the Brassy Apple Projects Flickr group!)

I'm not sure if anything is faster than this quick DIY project. If you want to add a some color or something unique to your home decor try this!

1. Pop some fabric that you love behind a frame and you are done!
2. Group several frames together, each with a different fabric, for a more dramatic display.
3. AND these are sooo quick and easy to make a quick change when the seasons change, holiday time, etc.


Many of you have seen photos of my entryway. Don't stop at just frames! There are several options of "objects" to place fabric behind besides just picture frames - how about windows?

Here's some ideas for picture frames too! They can go anywhere in your house including the bathroom like these:

You should always surround yourself with things that you love. These are great ways to pops of color, design and pattern anywhere in your house. Now if you want to get a bit more crafty, break out the supplies and lets get started!



Framed silhouettes -



Supplies needed:

Fabrics - or patterned scrapbooking papers
fusible fleece or interfacing (optional)
iron
picture frame
fabric marker
silhouette pattern
fun things to embellish with - ribbons, etc

Step 1: Pick your fabrics. (or papers. in this project I will be referring to fabrics) You will need one for the background and one for the silhouette.

Step 2: Apply the interfacing or fusible fleece to the back of your silhouette fabric per manufacturers instructions. This step is optional but if you want to add dimension to your silhouette use the fusible fleece. If you want to keep the edges neat, crisp, clean and free from fraying without any dimension use the interfacing.



Step 3: Using your Fabric Marker, trace your silhouette on the back side of your fused fabric and backwards too. This will ensure when you flip it over it's not facing the wrong way in the case of an alphabet letter, etc. ** Your Silhouette can be of ANYTHING - an initial letter, your child, favorite animal, favorite shape. Look to magazines, books, die cut shapes, stencils, etc to help you find a pattern.



Step 4: Cut out your silhouette and place it on your background fabric. Place the glass from the picture frame on top of your design and trace around it with a fabric marker. Set the glass aside and cut out the background fabric.



Step 5: Your design might look complete now but if it doesn't and you feel it still needs alittle something - now's the time to embellish! I used black ribbon to set it off from the frame. I simply cut 4 lengths and placed them in the pattern I liked. I used a bit of a glue stick to keep the pieces in place too. You don't have to use a lot. It's just a quick easy technique to keep it together before you place it in the frame.



Step 6: Cut any ribbon, fabrics or other embellishments that are hanging over the edges and place it in your frame. Polish the glass and display!

In just a few mintues.....

you can transform a room.............or start to anyway. Sadly enough, this frame has been sitting empty for 2 years!!!! I was so excited to have bought it at a really good sale price, then waited a year to find the perfect spot. Found it, placed it and it has sat empty for another year. *sigh*. anyone else have "projects" like this???

SO, one sunday afternoon I decided to take the reins on this project and and finally finish what I had wanted to do all along! and it took like 10 minutes!!! I picked out some scrap fabrics that went along with the color scheme and feel of the room and popped them into the openings of the mat leaving me some spaces to add personal family photos.

Granted the photos showing are still the ones that come in the frame from the store...................but we are making progress! tee hee he

It has completely changed the room (to me anyway) and created a fun focal point for that area of the room.

You know I love frames and here is just another fun way to dress up or change the decor of any room quickly and for little to no money! If you'd like more "framed" ideas, check out my past tutorial.
