iOS Tips: How to Copy/Paste ANYTHING in iBooks

Diposting oleh fawaid on Sabtu, 24 Desember 2011

Excerpt from Darkly Dreaming Dexter, by Jeff Lindsay
One complain many users have about their ereaders is that they prevent users from copy/pasting anything. It's thanks to anti-piracy measures, but really, it's not possible to select multiple pages of text, so who's really worried about sharing an excerpt from a book?

iBooks actually has a workaround, and fortunately it's incredibly simple.
First, just highlight the text that you'd like to copy. You'll notice that "Copy" isn't one of your options. But, "Search" is...
Select "Search". When the search dialog comes up, the text you've selected will be in a standard search box. Just copy it from there, and paste it wherever you'd like.

I doubt anyone will use this to share an entire book, page by page. But for sharing an excerpt from a book? It's incredibly useful. Happy reading (and sharing)!

I discovered this the other day, and I thought I'd share. The weather widget in the Notification Center in iOS 5 has more information than you'd know. Just swipe across the widget to show a 6 day forecast. Pretty cool!

UPDATED: Enable Hidden Panorama Mode Without Jailbreak

Diposting oleh fawaid on Selasa, 08 November 2011

Here's a way you can enable the hidden panorama mode in iOS 5 without jail breaking, and without having developer access. It's clever, and relatively easy is you have average computer skills. Essentially what you'll be doing is creating a backup, modifying that backup on your computer, and then restoring your iPhone from your backup. The step-by-step guide is below.

Turn Keyboard Clicks on or off in iOS

Diposting oleh fawaid on Rabu, 26 Oktober 2011

iOS comes with the keyboard click sound on. Some like it, some don't. I went for a while with it off, and only turned it back on recently to try it out. Years ago, I didn't like it, now I do.
If you'd like to turn keyboard clicks on or off, it's very easy. Just open Settings, and select Sounds. Here you can set up ringtones, vibration patterns, and, of course, keyboard clicks.
Sure, you probably already knew how to do this. If you didn't, you'd probably figure it out in under 30 seconds. But, I may have just saved you 30 seconds. How long did it take you to read this article?

Anyway, how do you take your keyboard taps? Silent, or with clicks?

Use Quicklook in Stacks

Diposting oleh fawaid on Sabtu, 24 September 2011

Quicklook is an amazing feature of Mac OS. Highlight an item, and press the space bar to get a peek at the file. Whether it's a document, or an image, you can see the contents without having to open the program associated with it. With Mac OS Lion, you can use Quicklook right from a Stack on your Dock. If you're using Fan or Grid view, you can use Quicklook in a very similar  way you would for any other file. Just hover your mouse over it, and press space. It's that easy. Just another one of those 250+ features that have been added to Lion.

Add Text to Mac OS Lion Lock Screen

Diposting oleh fawaid

Previously, you had to use a Terminal command, or an app like Secrets to add text to your lock screen. However, with Lion, Apple has made this even easier. Simply go into System Preferences, choose Security & Privacy, and in the General tab, type a message in the box. It's that easy.

Then, when your screen is locked, it will display the text you've typed in. It's an easy and quick way to deter thieves, or get your Mac back if it's been lost or stolen.

Modify Lion Features with Terminal

Diposting oleh fawaid on Jumat, 29 Juli 2011

You may be aware that you can customize Mac OS features with the Terminal. Apple keeps certain, more complex options out of the System Preferences app. But, if you'd like to change the behavior of Lion more than System Preferences allows, check out these four terminal commands, compiled by MacWorld.

As a reminder, to open the Terminal application, go into Applications -> Utilities. From here you can enter commands. Terminal is an incredibly useful Application, but most users will never use it. However, if you want to customize features not found within an application, it's a great tool. All of these customizations are reversible, just re-enter the command with true instead of false (or vise versa).

New year - new goals - new ideas......

Diposting oleh fawaid on Senin, 05 Januari 2009

Well if you are like most people you wrote out some new goals last week and are desperately trying to keep them. :)

I'm right there with you! Although this year I made fewer goals and will be focusing on one until I get it accomplished or under control and then tackle another. Seems to be more successful that way and less stressful.

New Goals?? If you are looking for alittle inspiration and something new take a look at this. The Inspired Room blog is focused on building a beautiful life this year. The plan? set twelve key word goals for living the kind of life I want in 2009. They are talking simple stuff and it will be a regular feature on their blog each Friday. You can hop on the beautiful life wagon as well and show off when you've focused on that week and link up to them to share. Check out their blog post for all the details. Hopefully I will be sharing a few things with them throughout the year.

New ideas and hobbies on your brain? I had several requests in my "what would you like see in 2009" giveaway post about basic sewing tips, tricks and how to's. I will be posting more tutorials this year - and all mine are pretty simple and easy (that's the way I like to work) ;) - BUT in the mean time and for those wanting to brush up their skills before then, check out the Beginner Basics ebooks section on YouCanMakeThis.com. and don't miss their free ebooks section too! Fun projects could be just around the corner

You Can Make This

and here's another tip from me about getting your sewing projects done. I may have posted it before but I need another reminder as I refocus on my goals and figure out how to get it all done with my new baby. :)

Take one day and cut out all your projects for that week. Then whenever you DO have time to sit down and sew, all the "prep" work is completed. It can easily be sewn up and finished! Instead of a big pile of "I'll get to it tomorrow"................sound familiar?

I am going to be better about getting back to doing this. It makes the projects seem to go that much faster when they are cut out and just waiting to be sewn up!

So pull out the paper you wrote those goals on and give it another go or re-evaluate what you'd really like to do this year! Make it a great day!
