A rumor coming from Digitimes reports that Apple is in talks with suppliers to provide new, slimmer touch screens for the iPhone. Touch screens right now are composed of a number of layers. There's the layer that actually displays the pixels, the LCD layer, then a layer of glass, after that, there's the layer that receives the touches, and finally, a protective layer of glass. It works great, and the tech already provides for incredibly thin devices. Not only that, but, at least on Apple products, there is no way to tell that you're not directly touching the pixel displaying portion of the screen (this isn't true on all touch screens, like the one on the Kindle Fire). But, expect the next iOS devices to shave off a few millimeters, thanks to new touch screen technology.
