Minecraft Pocket Edition was a very simplistic version of Minecraft when it was first released. There were few blocks, and crafting wasn't an option (which makes the name a bit of a misnomer). But, yesterday, the game finally got an update that brought crafting into the mix. It's still not perfect, for example, moving around is still awkward, and you can't craft everything you can in the full version of the game, but it's a big step in the right direction.
Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to play a bit more. The mobs are coming and I have a home to build. But before I go, I'll leave you with a link. You can download Minecraft for iOS

Android users have been waiting on a port of Instagram, the photo editing and sharing social networking app, for some time. Today, it finally arrived, and not without the same issues that the Android version of Temple Run faced. Due to fragmentation, the app cannot do live previews of filters when taking photos. This works fine on iOS, but because the developers have so many platforms to develop for, some more demanding or less powerful than others, they couldn't add the feature. Not only that, apparently users are experiencing bugs. One issue is that the app will save three copies of the photo. Not only that, but it doesn't allow users to select where the photos will be stored. This is important on Android, because devices will often have very little on board storage, instead relying on user purchased sd cards.

It's not often I write a post with such a simple title and such an outright statement. Yes, I'm saying Zynga, maker of games like Words with Friends and FarmVille, is evil. Their business is based on stealing competitors ideas, changing them slightly, and then republishing them as their own. Seeing the popularity of Tiny Tower, Zynga made their own knockoff game, Dream Heights, which looks just like it. This isn't a coincidence, and it's not the first time they've done this. An ex-employee of Zynga has come forward, saying that the company is literally in the business of stealing ideas. They're like Google and Microsoft rolled into one, and they. Don't try to hide what they're doing either.

Temple Run is a fantastic (and addictive) game for iOS. Android users, unsurprisingly, are feeling left out. While there is no official Android version of Temple Run, there are plenty of clones. Normally, clones are just poor versions of the real game. There are a lot of popular iOS apps and games that will never be released as Android apps. This leaves space and demand for clones. They're normally harmless, albeit terrible versions of the original. However, the clones of Temple Run are far more dangerous. They come with hidden trojans and malware. Download the game, and your Android phone is infected.
Of course, the iOS version of Temple Run is the real thing, and quite a fun game at that. That's why Android users want it so badly. But if you're an Android user, wait for the official app if it's ever released. Sure, it won't have Game Center support like the iOS version, but at least it won't have malware.
This goes for any game clone. If a developer is willing to clone a game, and possibly face legal trouble, they may be willing to use some malicious code to make some extra money off of unsuspecting users. Don't download clones.

Fancy Pants Adventures was one great flash game. Now, it's available on iOS for just 99¢. Sure, it was a free Flash game before, but playing Flash games on mobile devices really isn't all that great, even if your smartphone can play Flash. The native app has easy to use controls, and plays just as smoothly (if not more smoothly) than the Flash game. Check it out on the
iOS App Store.

Love them or hate them, the new Facebook profiles, called timelines, are here. Friend's cover photos show up, and users have access to their friends entire timeline. Some may end up liking the mobile version more, because the news feed isn't split up into columns. If you or your friends haven't started using the new profile yet, the profile will show up in the classic format.
Every new Facebook feature gets plenty of hateful comments, but it seems that so far, the new timeline profiles are popular. Although some critics have pointed out that the timeline makes allows users to easily look back through the lives of other users. Things that used to be buried are now easily available. Now, Facebook should add a new security feature: forbidding friends from looking past a certain year in your life. Of course, this is Facebook, don't expect new Facebook privacy settings anytime soon.
As I said, you may or may not like the new timelines, but they're here to stay. As far as Facebook updates go, at least this one looks good, even if it does compromise privacy by a small amount. Now if you or your friends have enabled the new profile, you can get those timelines on your iOS device.

Infinity Blade 2 was released December 1st, and while my
first review of it was very good, I've since changed my mind about this game. I can no longer recommend buying Infinity Blade 2. At the very least, wait for version 1.0.2.
The bug that made me change my mind about this game? Data loss. It seems most users are experiencing it in one way or another. Either their game file will occasionally be deleted, or it will happen constantly. For me, playing the game is like playing an NES game, every time I stop playing, I lose my data. I've since stopped wasting my time with this game.

Flipboard has been a longstanding favorite news reading app for iPad users. The app presents the news in an interesting and yet easy to use interface, that feels more like reading from a magazine than from the web. It can even do the same enhancements for your Facebook or Twitter feeds.
Today, Flipboard finally made the app available for iPhones and iPod Touches. Many were worked that the interface, which was so well done on the iPad, wouldn't translate well for a smaller screen. Fortunately, those fears were put to rest after using the app for just a few minutes.
But first, a bit of a story. I first spotted a news story about Flipboard coming to other iOS devices this morning. I quickly downloaded it, only to find that the app just wasn't working. A quick look on the developer's site, and I found the problem. Apparently, many people have been anxiously awaiting the iPhone version of this app, because Flipboard's servers were down. I was checking the progress all throughout the day. Finally, they're back online now, and Flipboard has begun to slowly accept new users. It seems as though it may be worth a try now, as it should work for most users.

Trapster has released a huge update to their iOS app. With version 4.5, which currently only runs on iOS 5 devices, many new features have been added. The app now recognizes what road you're on, rather than simply checking your GPS location. Because of this, it can give you the speed limit, as well as live traffic reports. It still has the great speed trap and road hazard reporting features.
The map itself is also more appealing to the eye, and won't cause as much eye strain at night.
The new features make Trapster a must have app, even if you're not prone to speeding. By giving you the speed limit, even on roads that are poorly marked, as well as alerting you of road conditions and upcoming traffic, this has become the ultimate driver's app beyond navigation apps.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition will be released sometime tomorrow, according to
this placeholder on the App Store. It seems the pocket edition won't have crafting yet, instead it will just allow the user to move blocks around. Still, if you've ever played creative mode, you'd know that moving blocks around is actually quite fun.
It appears as though the app will be universal, for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, and will cost $9.99. Minecraft is extremely popular, but $10 is a bit steep. With any luck, the developers either add more features, or drop the price in the future. Minecraft should be available for download by tomorrow
here. Although, despite the release date on the App Store page, Cult of Mac is claiming it could be out later today. Either way, it will be available before the end of the week!

Apple has updated the
Apple Store app with the rumored Easy Pay feature, as well as the option to buy products through the app, and pick them up at your local Apple retail store. With the easy pay system, select accessories can be scanned and paid for on the app. Scan it, pay for it, and leave, it's that easy.
The pick-up option is currently only available in the US, but it's expected to spread elsewhere in the future. And, while you can't pay for everything using the easy pay system, you can pay for a number of select accessories. How Apple combats theft is unknown, but it's still a great feature for consumers. Easy pay and in store pickups could make shopping at the Apple Store easier than ever, and it already was an easy experience.

The iPhone
has a fantastic camera. But, there is still an issue with it. The aperture is fixes, which limits the photographer's ability to play with the depth of field. In comes Big Lens, a 99¢ app that gives users great control over the depth of field. Not only that, it also has a number of filters to make each shot looks just as good as you want it to. It's easy to apply the mask to the object you want in focus, and even automatically refining the edges of the object. At 99¢, it's a steal. If you're serious about iPhone photography, you've probably used Camera+ in the past. Get ready to add Big Lens to your photography app folder, because this isn't a gimmick, it produces good looking photos with ease.

Snapseed is one of the best photo processing apps on the App Store. It's normally $5, and it's worth the price. Today, however, you can get it for a lot less. $5 less, to be exact. Tomorrow the app will be $5 again, so download it now while you can.
It's a powerful and easy to use photo editing app. Adjust color, exposure, brightness contrast, apply filters, crop, straighten, and more. It won't take you long before you're creating beautiful photos with Snapseed. You can download it

Any college student could tell you, every semester begins with a daunting task. No, not moving in. Nope, it's not getting your parents to say goodbye quickly and get on the road. The dreaded task is buying new textbooks. That money you saved up working at a horrible retail job over the summer? That's quickly is cut in half, all in the name of some books you may end up using only a few times.
Because of this, students go through another ritual at the end of the year: trading in their textbooks. Unfortunately, most campus bookstores are incredibly cheap, and they'll often turn books away if a new edition has come out. So, unless you've kept your book in excellent condition, and the professor is using the same book for their class next year, don't expect to get much of anything for your books. Half price is a long shot.
