Minecraft Pocket Edition was a very simplistic version of Minecraft when it was first released. There were few blocks, and crafting wasn't an option (which makes the name a bit of a misnomer). But, yesterday, the game finally got an update that brought crafting into the mix. It's still not perfect, for example, moving around is still awkward, and you can't craft everything you can in the full version of the game, but it's a big step in the right direction.

ShadowGun Is an impressive third person shooter available on iOS for both iPhone and iPad. It's an over-the-shoulder style shooter reminiscent of Gears of War. Before the update, I impressed others by showing this game off on both my iPad and iPhone. But now, the graphics have been updated specifically for the new iPad. This means full retina graphics, and 4x antialiasing. The game is also available on Android, but looks unimaginably better on iOS. Don't believe it? Let alone the actual, full sized screen shots from a retina display iPhone, iPod, or iPad. I couldn't even use the full resolution photo for this post.

When Apple revealed the new iPad, they said the retina display, ram upgrade, and A5X processor would put iPad gaming on par with game consoles. Though there are games out that take advantage of the increase in power and graphics capabilities of the new iPad, none have really pushed it to the limit yet, so these claims have not been verified... yet.
Still, Apple could be preparing for iOS to take over serious gaming, as well as mobile gaming. One thing that may sweeten the deal would be a controller. According to a source at Anandtech claims that they know Apple has been working on an official controller for iOS. A patent application from 2008 certainly proves that Apple has at least thought about such a device. Whether or not the report is true, or if Apple would actually release a device is uncertain. Apple often works on projects that end up going unreleased, so even if they are working on a controller, there's no guarantee it would be released.
There have been 3rd party controllers for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch in the past. However, while they work well, none have gotten enough developer support to become really popular. Developers have a hard time committing to a 3rd party controller, as they don't know if people will buy them, or if the support for the controller will worth their time to add. But, if Apple were to release a controller, it would get more support from developers, and be a more attractive option for consumers. Then there are some that say the touch screen is all any iOS device needs for games, and this seems to be the kind of stance Apple would take as well.
It's not often I write a post with such a simple title and such an outright statement. Yes, I'm saying Zynga, maker of games like Words with Friends and FarmVille, is evil. Their business is based on stealing competitors ideas, changing them slightly, and then republishing them as their own. Seeing the popularity of Tiny Tower, Zynga made their own knockoff game, Dream Heights, which looks just like it. This isn't a coincidence, and it's not the first time they've done this. An ex-employee of Zynga has come forward, saying that the company is literally in the business of stealing ideas. They're like Google and Microsoft rolled into one, and they. Don't try to hide what they're doing either.
Today, Rovio released the latest Angry Birds game, Space. Unlike past updates and new versions, Angry Birds Space really changes things up, and it's a good thing. Scratch that, it's a great thing. If you were to only buy two Angry Birds apps, make it the original, and this one.
If you haven't checked out Draw Something yet, you're really missing out. It's a mobile and social version of Pictionary. Of course, it's not quite that simple. You can compete with your friends on Facebook, sending invites to friends who are also playing the game. It even keeps all kinds of statistics on your games, from percentages correct, to how long it takes people to guess a drawing, and more. It's a lot of fun, but don't just take my word for it, check it out. They also have a free version, available here.
Temple Run is a fantastic (and addictive) game for iOS. Android users, unsurprisingly, are feeling left out. While there is no official Android version of Temple Run, there are plenty of clones. Normally, clones are just poor versions of the real game. There are a lot of popular iOS apps and games that will never be released as Android apps. This leaves space and demand for clones. They're normally harmless, albeit terrible versions of the original. However, the clones of Temple Run are far more dangerous. They come with hidden trojans and malware. Download the game, and your Android phone is infected.
Of course, the iOS version of Temple Run is the real thing, and quite a fun game at that. That's why Android users want it so badly. But if you're an Android user, wait for the official app if it's ever released. Sure, it won't have Game Center support like the iOS version, but at least it won't have malware. This goes for any game clone. If a developer is willing to clone a game, and possibly face legal trouble, they may be willing to use some malicious code to make some extra money off of unsuspecting users. Rockstar is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the release of Grand Theft Auto 3 by releasing it for iOS. The game has some (slightly) updated graphics, and has been made specifically for the high definition retina display. The game will work on iPhones, iPod Touches, and iPads alike. Whether you wan't some nostalgia, or you're new to the Grand Theft Auto series, this game looks to be just as good as the console version. You can download it from the App Store here. via CultOfMac
Infinity Blade 2 was released December 1st, and while my first review of it was very good, I've since changed my mind about this game. I can no longer recommend buying Infinity Blade 2. At the very least, wait for version 1.0.2.
The bug that made me change my mind about this game? Data loss. It seems most users are experiencing it in one way or another. Either their game file will occasionally be deleted, or it will happen constantly. For me, playing the game is like playing an NES game, every time I stop playing, I lose my data. I've since stopped wasting my time with this game.

Infinity Blade 2 was released today. It's a fantastic game. After getting lost in it for a while, I decided I should write an article about it. The game improves on everything that players loved about the original. Gorgeous graphics, fast and addictive gameplay, and an intriguing storyline make this a must have iOS game. The story is more in depth than the first Infinity Blade, you'll find yourself watching every cutscene that you may have skipped in the original. Not only do they reveal more of the story, but they look simply fantastic.
Weapons, shields, armor, and items have been improved greatly as well. The game breaks up weapons into three classes, light, heavy, and dual. Light weapons are quick, and can be paired with a shield. Heavy weapons deal more damage, but are slower. The fastest option, and the best way to deal out damage quickly, is to wield two swords. The problem with doing this, is that you lose the ability to block, although you can now duck.
Also added is the idea of gems. Gems allow you to add effects to your weapons. This adds more strategy. Going up against an enemy that specializes in fire? Equip a water gem to deal massive water based damage. Other than that, combat and leveling up will feel familiar.
The game is available on the App Store for $6.99. That might seem like a bit much for an app, but after playing it a bit, I would have been willing to pay a lot more. Go download the best looking, and one of the most fun mobile games ever created. You'll find the game looks best on the iPhone 4S or iPad 2, but it works on the iPhone 3GS, 4, and 4S, as well as the first and second generation iPad. iPod Touch users with a 3rd or 4th generation can also join in on the fun. iOS 3.2 or higher is required. If you have an iOS device, get this game.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition will be released sometime tomorrow, according to this placeholder on the App Store. It seems the pocket edition won't have crafting yet, instead it will just allow the user to move blocks around. Still, if you've ever played creative mode, you'd know that moving blocks around is actually quite fun.
It appears as though the app will be universal, for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, and will cost $9.99. Minecraft is extremely popular, but $10 is a bit steep. With any luck, the developers either add more features, or drop the price in the future. Minecraft should be available for download by tomorrow here. I've been playing Rage HD for a while. But today, I decided to try a different control scheme, "Virtual Window". I noticed right away that though it still used the gyroscope, I had to move my iPhone around, 360ยบ as well as up and down. It's as though your iPhone becomes a window into the world of the game (the control scheme is aptly named).

Old-school Mac gamers will remember Bungie's Marathon, a first person shooter for Macs released in 1994. Developer Daniel Blezek has been working on porting the game over to the iPad, and has received official support from Bungie.
Bungie, before being bought out by Microsoft, was dedicated to the Mac platform and their fans. Unfortunately, Microsoft put a stop to that, first by delaying the release of Halo, which was supposed to be a Mac exclusive, and then by canceling it on all other platforms but their own. It's a real shame, Microsoft limited Bungie's creativity as well as the platforms they could release their games on.
However, Marathon was made before Microsoft sunk their talons into the game company. This means Bungie still has the rights to it, and is allowed to sanction ports of their classic games like Marathon.
