iPhone Retention Rate Destroys Competition

iPhone owners love their phones. That much is certain. But how much more do they love their phones over other smartphone owners? As it turns out, a lot more.
iPhone retention rate is 89%. That means 89% of iPhone owners will be making an iPhone their next phone. The closest rival is HTC, with just 39%. That's right, the iPhone has the closes competitor beat by 50 percentage points.

Web OS Goes Down, and Stays Down

Last year, HP acquired Palm, primarily for Web OS, the company's smartphone OS. The purchase price? 1.2 billion. HP was going to continue to make WebOS phones and tablets, and they thought they would be able to succeeded in marketing WebOS where Palm had failed. However, just 16 months later, HP has thrown in the towel. As of today, HP announced that they would be discontinuing all WebOS products. WebOS is no more.

WebOS was the operating system on such products as the Palm Pre, the HP Pree 2, the HP Veer, and the Slate. It didn't have the same popularity as iOS or Android, but there were a few dedicated fans to the operating system.
