Apple has been getting a lot of flak over working conditions at a separate company, Foxconn. Try to make sense of it if you will, but what it comes down to is the fact that Apple is popular, and there's more profit in making a fuss over a profitable company. But, more to the point, Apple has been working harder to ensure workers have the best working conditions. They've invited independent inspectors to their factories, during the height of the production of the new iPad, and without notifying their suppliers. They couldn't have found a time to do a more honest inspection.
Other tech companies have been completely silent, and for good reason. They're doing little to nothing. A number of these tech companies were asked "Does your company have any plans to let independent auditors check up on your suppliers’ factories?". A simple question, and yet they all dodged it. A few responses are below.
Things aren't looking so good for Android. Many of the features of the OS were originally suspected to have been copied from iOS. Android was very different before the release of the first iPhone. Also, Google's Eric Schmidt was a board member at Apple, and had an early look at the iPhone. It has been reported that he then went back to Google to get them working on a touch based version of Android, with plenty of features inspired by the iPhone. Now that Apple's patents are finally getting approval, they're building up an arsenal to use in legal battles against Android manufacturers, and even Google itself.
In March of 2010, Steve Jobs said, "We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it". Today, the International Trade Commission finally ruled on a patent case against HTC regarding an Apple patent. As of April 19th of 2012, HTC won't be able to import any phones that violate Apple's patent.
HTC has come clean about a massive security flaw in their Android powered phones. The security hole allows an attacker to access all the data on the phone very easily. A malicious app could easily come in, take all your data, and send it elsewhere. HTC is working on a solution.
The flaw is in HTC's Sense UI, not the Android OS, so if you don't have an HTC Android phone, you're safer. Of course, Android has it's own security flaws, but you're at least safe from this issue. Of course, issues like this don't happen when the same company controls every aspect of the OS, like Apple does with iOS. via Gizmodo
iPhone owners love their phones. That much is certain. But how much more do they love their phones over other smartphone owners? As it turns out, a lot more. iPhone retention rate is 89%. That means 89% of iPhone owners will be making an iPhone their next phone. The closest rival is HTC, with just 39%. That's right, the iPhone has the closes competitor beat by 50 percentage points.

The International Trade Commission has ruled that HTC violated two Apple patents. This is bad news for HTC as well as Android device manufacturers that have violated Apple's patents in their products. Apple, tired of seeing it's competitors copy their technology, has filed for a number of lawsuits against a number of mobile device manufacturers, claiming they'd rather imitate than innovate. If more manufacturers are found guilty of patent infringement, they may have to pay Apple royalty fees until they can create suitable replacements of their own.
Innovation drives technology forward, but imitation is cheaper for companies who would rather make money than stand out from their competitors. Hopefully these patent lawsuits will become less common, as companies decide to create unique technology solutions for their customers. via AppleInsider
Is bigger better? Taiwan-based smartphone leader HTC must think so. It just updated its most successful flagship Desire with a more extravagant HTC Desire HD. As the name clearly suggest, it’s now updated with HF video recording capability. But for current Desire users, updating to the new Android 2.2 Froyo makes their Desire capable of HD as well. But the new Desire HD does more.
Right off the bat, the HTC Desire HD is bigger, thanks to a larger 4.3-inch display that shares the same AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with WVGA resolution and 16 million colors of the older Desire. It also has the same multitouch data input technology accelerometer and proximity sensors. The HTC Desire is one of the hottest phones currently on the market and its popularity has led to shortages in stock levels. If you are planning to pick up a Desire with the intention of taking it abroad, then its roaming abilities should not disappoint. The Desire is compatible with the majority of international networking standards and its quad band compatibility means that it will operate well in both Europe and the USA. American corporation Apple initiated the judicial claim against Taiwan company HTC which is accused of infringement of 20 mobile patents. The statement of claim is submitted to federal court of Delaware and in the Commission on international trade of the USA. Besides it, in the judicial claim such phones as appear: Google Nexus One, HTC Hero, Dream and G1.
The claim without conditions
The judicial claim is initiated by infringement of patents for the technologies connected with the user interface, initial architecture and a hardware stuffing of phones iPhone. Thus corporation Apple does not specify, which indemnification wants from HTC.
"We can sit and observe of how competitors steal our patented inventions or we can struggle with it. We have decided to struggle", — has declared Steve Jobs, chief executive Apple, — "We consider, that a competition it is good, but competitors should create own original technologies, instead of steal ours".
In turn the Taiwan manufacturer of smart phones has refused to recognise itself the infringer of patents Apple.
