Apple Updates Java

Just yesterday, a Trojan was released for the Mac that could install itself. It exploited a Java security hole that would allow it to be installed on your Mac without installation or the user's password. However, that Trojan has already been squashed by Apple. Today, they release an update to Java that would improve Java security on Macs. While Apple could have released this earlier, something has to be said about how quickly they fixed the issue after it was released.

Fire up Software Update (in the Apple menu) to download the update.

Apple Releases iOS 5.0.1

Apple has released the iOS 5.0.1 update. This update brings a number of fixes, including a fix for the battery issue seen by some iPhone 4S users. The update also adds multitasking gestures to the original iPad, and resolves issues with documents stored in the cloud.

To download the update, just sync your iPhone and check for updates on the summary tab, or go into settings on your iOS device and update the software from there.

Apple: iPhone 4S Battery Fix on the Way

Apple has officially acknowledged that some users are experiencing issues with the iPhone 4S battery life. Fortunately, they've stated that it's an issue with software, and they're working on a fix. Expect an update within a few weeks.

Meanwhile, Apple has released an iOS 5.0.1 beta to developers, which tests their fix for battery life, as well as adding multitasking gestures to the original iPad, improving security, resolves iCloud bugs involving documents, and improves speech recognition for Australian users.

These fixes should be applied to iOS relatively soon, as long as developers don't experience any issues with the update.
