Publishers have seen some success with magazine and newspaper subscriptions on iOS through Newstand. Now game developers want to get in on the subscription based model. It's not something many developers will want to do, but for some, it works. Big Fish Games will be the first to offer the service, making all their games available for $4.99 per month.
Games will be streamed to users, meaning they won't be on your iOS device. Your iPad or iPhone will simply serve as a controller, and the video will be streamed from the games. How well this works has yet to be seen, but it's similar to the way OnLive offers streamed games for a subscription.
Expect more streamed games in the near future with iOS game subscriptions. Whether or not customers will jump to this as easily as they did magazine subscriptions will be a question for many developers in the future.
