91% of developers surveyed by Appcelerator said they were "very interested" in developing for the iPhone, with 88% saying they wanted to develop for the iPad as well. The closest competitor in North America, and the highest ranking Android tablet was the Kindle Fire, with 49% being "very interested". Although, interest may dwindle in the coming months, as the Kindle Fire hasn't impressed some reviewers. Can it compete with developers when users can't access the Android Marketplace? 8GB is barely enough for a few large apps, let alone everything else this device has to store. The low price is the only thing that will be drawing users to the Kindle Fire, but will that be enough for it to compete with the iOS giants?
There's no doubt that iOS still is the most popular mobile operating system for developers. It's going to remain the king for quite some time. Underwhelming tablets, fragmentation, and poor sales will keep developers wary of Android for some time. But for Android developers, the Kindle Fire does represent a small glimmer of light. The hope is that the low price may bring more people into the the wonderful world of tablet ownership, even if it doesn't live up to the competition.
