There are a smattering of great ideas out there in blogging land! Don't you love how the internet and the "world wide web" has completely changed the crafting scene? It's wonderful to be able to share so many creative ideas with people all over the world!
I came across this idea and knew that is was the one I wanted to craft up this year for our end of the year teacher gifts. No need to re-invent the wheel when a great idea is staring you in the face! :)
Then of course they got packaged up in these oh so stylish fabric gift boxes from Hullaballo done up in Sandi Hendersons fabric!

We made Chalkboard plates this year! They show you all the "steps" in their tutorial! It couldn't be easier! My little guy them wrote on them for each of this preschool teachers. This one says "Thank you Miss Des - AJ" in case you couldn't figure it out. ;) I thought it would mean more to them to have him write on it then me.

Garden lust
Diposting oleh fawaid on Minggu, 24 Mei 2009
Today I got to water the plants in the most beautiful backyard in Williamsburg. With a real hose and everything! Its funny, the unexpected things one misses while living in an apartment. Like hoses. I miss hoses.
So needless to say, I have gardens on the brain, big time. Since I'm not able to have my own, I like to A. volunteer to water other people's and B. read gardening books to prep for when I'll have a space of my own.
These 1920's magazine covers are from one of my all time favorite, dream worthy gardening books, "The Once and Future Gardener".
It contains a collection of magazine gardening articles from 1900-1940, along with old photos, illustrations and a ton of American history info. Amazing.
One day, I'll get my garden and when I do I'm going to have tea parties for all!
*Old fashioned hats required for entry.
Cat attack
Diposting oleh fawaid on Jumat, 22 Mei 2009
I almost died when I found this little postcard from 1914 while browsing esty (my new favorite pastime as of late).
She looks JUST like my cranky little Minnie, complete with whiny bad attitude and red silk bow. I think it's her great great great grandmother or something.
And you know how I said the cats weren't being nice to me lately? To be honest, I think it all started with my attempt to reproduce the postcard.
Admittedly, I'm kind of an Elmyra from Tiny Tunes when it comes to kitties. I just want to love and kiss and dress them up in little hats. Yes, I deserve my scratches.

I have been a truly horrible blogger. I am so sorry.
Since I posted last, I have.....
1. Amicably split with my man. So there's been a lot of boo hooing even though it's what we both wanted. All for the best, my friends. All for the best.
2. Orchestrated his last minute move out, needless to say, my house is in shambles.
3. Became a single mother to our kitties. They are having a hard time adjusting and are showing their displeasure by scratching me much more the usual.
4. Started a new (and AMAZING!) job. More details to follow soon.
5. Lost internet for going on 5 days now (furtively typing this at new job, sorry Sarah!).
5. Spent nearly 50 hours working nonstop for Ginnys amazing wedding. Busy is good, very good.
No time for wallowing, but also no time for blogging. For that, I apologize.
On a happy note, Kristi and I shot these to die for ham and cheese turnovers from The Blue Stove in Williamsburg. I swear, it's going to be my personal mission to ensure that this place thrives. So freaking good.
Lord knows in times like these how much pastries help.

A summer series? Do you want to play??.......
Diposting oleh fawaid on Selasa, 19 Mei 2009
I love tutorials and getting great new ideas - simple even - from all the wonderful bloggers out there - YES! I am talking to you! :)
I wondered if I picked a subject, posted the idea and then gave everyone 10-15 days to create their their own take on the project. Then, on a specific day everyone could post their results and a few how to steps and we could all link up here with Mr. Linky.
What do you think? Any interest in playing?
Make it simple on yourself - share pictures, a few steps if necessary or dud up your post if you'd like!
Sound like fun? Post a comment and let me know if you are IN or even interested! AND if you have an idea you'd like to see done! I have a list of ideas but like I said, this will be a group effort! :)
Ok crafters! Let's play this summer!

First quilt......
Diposting oleh fawaid on Senin, 18 Mei 2009
Here is the finished very small and tiny quilt. It started out as just some left over pieces in a bag from Sandi and screamed out "baby quilt" to me. Having never pieced something that before in my life I was a bit hesitant but that only lasted about 2 seconds before I jumped in! I'm sure it's wasn't created or finished off the way a seasoned quilter would do it but I was winging it here and having alot of fun!
Of course a quilt from me wouldn't be complete without a little Shaggy mosaic detailing! The baby wouldn't expect anything less! *snicker*
and what better way to gift the quilt than in a matching fabric gift box - again from the talented Sandi and the people at Hullabaloo

The verdict? The expecting mommy loves it! I am sure that even though the quilt is far from perfect my new little neice will still love it!
So I did it! I created a pieced quilt! and if I can do - so can you! Try something new and let me know how it goes. xo-Meg
and thanks Sandi for all the inspiration - mwah!

Summer Salsa and Pink Grapefruit....it's not food!
Diposting oleh fawaid on Kamis, 14 Mei 2009
I told you it wasn't food! But definately inspired by food. My newest aprons simply named themselves! Fresh reds, green and some spicey prints and patterns and it just screamed Summer Salsa to me!
Then on the flip side we have a feminine, soft yet fresh looking apron style/design. Adding a small ruffle of pink tulle and a rounded hemline and I couldn't get Pink Grapefruit out of the head.
Maybe I was hungry when I was sewing???? or maybe I had recipes on the brain still...... *snicker* ...no matter why my latest apron designs ended up being named after foods, there they are and ready to be shipped out to you!
I've had several requests for more full style aprons - hence my new design - pink grapefruit. Hopefully more full designs to come! .......Oh and of course both aprons are reverisble so take a peek to see what the other side looks like!
Contrast and creativity......personal touches
Diposting oleh fawaid
I think everyone gets the "bug" to spruce up their home with something fresh as the Spring/Summer season rolls around. I certainly do!! I have been wanting to re-do a few rooms in my house so I loved reading this latest post on the 30days blog where she talks about adding personal touches to your home.

I thought I would share a few quick snapshots I took at my moms house the other day. I have always loved the punch of black the storage cabinets at the end her hallway make. When they bought the house they were just natural stained wood. A simple coat of black paint and updated hardware adds personality and interest. (Notice the nice black window frame on the wall too? Like daughter like mother! ) Plus I have always loved the natural round wreath hung about the cabinets. And oh yeah - I have one of those too! *snicker*
Another fun creative personal touch is her "drawer". She took an old drawer and hung it on the wall to help showcase these very old kitchen tools which were my great grandmothers. And because the best part of the funky old drawer is the drawer front - she pulled it and attached it so it can be seen and showcased as well! Good job MOM! Doesn't seem to take much to add a little personal touch of your own to you home! Have any you want to share? let me know.....

The countdown......
Diposting oleh fawaid on Rabu, 13 Mei 2009
I don't know about you but our family is really looking forward to summer!!! I can't wait for the kids to be out of school and to have an open and free schedule. Plus I hope that the warm weather will finally arrive! We've had a really long winter and a very chilly Spring around here.

I've got lots of plans, hopes and wishes for this Summer - we'll see how it actually all turns out. *snicker* We recently made a paper chain to help countdown the days to my sons 5th birthday and we thought it might be fun to do the same for the end of school too. It was quick and easy to put together. It's nothing fancy but makes a great craft project to do together!!
Gather some colorful paper
scissors
tape/glue/stapler
marker
calendar
I used stars for our destinations points - one for each - preschool graduation and elementary school's last day.
Layered several papers together and cut thin strips
Count the number of days left and cut enough papers
Start making your chain! We used staples and had about 30 links on our chain. Preschool gets out earlier than elementary so I cut a smaller star and stapled it to the link when my little guy would have his last day of preschool. Then the larger star went at the top. It was pretty long so we hung it next to the fridge and waaaaay up high. Each morning they take turns pulling a link off and watch it get shorter and shorter. Have fun crafting one up yourself!
