Foxconn Worker Conditions Well Above Average

Apple (and for some reason, no one else) got a lot of negative attention over Foxconn worker conditions recently. Turns out, it was all over nothing. According to the Fair Labor Association, conditions at Foxconn are actually well above the average. In other words, if you were going to work in a Chinese factory, you'd be happier working at Foxconn than anywhere else.

They say the suicides weren't over the conditions at Foxconn, but rather the lack of emotional support. For many young workers, this is their first time away from home, and since Foxconn workers live at the factory, it can be an emotional situation for many people.

The study isn't complete yet though. The FLA is going to do interviews with the workers. They'll be publishing an interim report in March, but so far, it seems as though the media was just looking to make Apple out to be a bad guy. Not surprising, seeing as they completely ignored the fact that many other tech companies were clients of Foxconn.
