Apple Working on Augmented Reality for Maps

The map related patents have really been pouring out from Apple recently. The latest details an augmented realty view for the map application, which would show directions and road names right overtop of the actual roads. The view would also show landmarks, making it easy to quickly find your bearings. If you've ever been in an unfamiliar city looking for directions, you'd know that the overhead map view doesn't always cut it. Apple hoping to make maps easier to read, and more about finding your way to your destination. Apple probably won't have their map application ready until iOS 6, but who knows, Apple could have some surprises up their sleeves for iOS 5 still (however unlikely).
