Apple Patent Shows Drastic Plans for Maps

A recently revealed patent from Apple shows that the Cupertino based company has been busy remaining the way we get directions through a mapping app. The patent shows a "schematic" view of a map, which gives the user more important data to find their way to the destination. Instead of being geographically accurate, the view would skew the map, only showing the route, and the cross roads along the route. It also shows a more linear view that's easier to read, complete with landmarks you'll pass.

Quite creative. This goes hand in hand with the rumor that Apple has been working on their own map app, complete with traffic. It raises the question, do you really need a geographically accurate map, when all you really want is directions?
