Redbox has announced that due to increasing costs, including debit card fees, they've had to increase the price of a daily DVD rental from $1 to $1.20. The change is set to take place immediately, but from October 31st to November 30th, you'll be able to reserve a DVD online and pay $1 for the first night ($1.20 after that). Also, Redbox will no longer allow customers to keep the movie for up to 25 days. They say it will vary by kiosk, with most having a limit of 20 days for a dvd, 23 for Blu-Ray, and 30 days for video games.
The price increase isn't much, and, unlike Netflix, they have a legitimate reason for needing the price increase. Redbox will continue to offer great services, and is looking to expand upon them as well. Netflix could learn a thing or two here.
Redbox has posted an FAQ for the price increase here.
