Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, said today that "You don't have to be a computer scientist to use a Windows Phone, but you do to use an Android phone". He also stated that he just can't get excited about an Android phone. Ouch.
Okay, I can't completely say I disagree with him. You don't need a Computer Science degree to use Android, just a lot of patience. That is, unless you decide to start rooting your device, in which you better know what you're doing.
The Android interface is quite convoluted and overly complicated. It's often ugly too. But, can the CEO of the company that makes Windows really complain about the user interface of another operating system? Especially since their own mobile OS is in many ways, too simple. They've only recently gotten copy/paste, multitasking, and they're pushing 40,000 apps, which is just a few thousand short of Blackberry's. Not to mention, they roll out updates, so people never know if or when they're going to get the update. But, it's got live updating tiles on it's home screen, for your social networks... as long as they're not ones you actually use, like Facebook, for example, which doesn't update the tile.
Honestly, while I agree that Android is overly complicated, and clearly the interface came second to the idea of "let's make a mobile OS", Ballmer isn't really in a position to insult any other company's user interface.
