The man who made the computer for everyday people, the smartphone for everyone, who pioneered the user interface that we use today, and even the animation we see in movies, has passed away. Apple, as well as the world, has lost its greatest tech visionary. Steve Jobs has died, at the age of 56.
I always thought of myself as a decent writer, but I simply can't find the words to put into this article. Steve Jobs wasn't just a CEO. He was an admirable person, a visionary, a hard worker, an American icon, and in many ways, a hero.
Steve Jobs never spoke a single word to his birth father, he was adopted. He did later develop a relationship with his blood relatives, but never spoke with his father. I'm sure his father regrets this now.
Steve started a company with his friend, Steve Wozniak, in his garage, with a simple mission: make computers for everyone. Woz would later leave the company, leaving it in Steve Job's capable hands. After he left Apple, things went downhill. But the tech world got more innovations, from his NeXT computers and OS, Mac OS would be born. And, Pixar, a company Steve helped found, would become the best movie studio for fun, animated movies, like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Wall-e, and Up. When he returned to Apple, he put it on the fast track to becoming the most valuable company in the world.
Imagine that, a company started with the idea of making their customer's lives easier, which was started in a garage by a young man and his friend, would go on to be the most valuable company in the world. Steve Jobs proved to everyone that the American dream is alive and well.
Steve Jobs fought cancer, contributed to AIDs research, and gave the world the technological revolution we see today. A computer in every household, and a smartphone in nearly every pocket. If you're reading this, Steve has undoubtedly improved your life in one way or another.
I could never express my thoughts eloquently enough for this post. I tried my best. Honestly, I could sit here for days trying to perfect it. But this is a news site, not a biography. When I posed about Steve Job's resignation, I wrote more of Steve's history at Apple. You can check that out here.
Thank you, Steve Jobs. You started a company that will carry on your legacy. You've created a cult following of people who love your products, and everything you do. Rest in peace, Steven Paul Jobs, you will be greatly missed.
You can send condolences, as well as share your thoughts by emailing rememberingsteve@apple.com
