Previously, you had to use a Terminal command, or an app like Secrets to add text to your lock screen. However, with Lion, Apple has made this even easier. Simply go into System Preferences, choose Security & Privacy, and in the General tab, type a message in the box. It's that easy.
Then, when your screen is locked, it will display the text you've typed in. It's an easy and quick way to deter thieves, or get your Mac back if it's been lost or stolen.
