iPad Boosts Grades

Who would have thought a fun little tablet would be enough to boost student's grades? Actually, it seems like a commonly accepted idea, but Abilene Christian University decided to do research on the matter. They found that, yes, iPads, iPhones, and iPods improve students' grades.

For the past 3 years, they've given handheld devices to incoming students to measure their success. Before the iPad was released, they gave them iPhones or iPod touches. They found in one study that "students who annotated text on their iPads scored 25% higher on questions regarding information transfer than their paper-based peers." They also note that graduates had a 95% satisfaction rate with their digital learning process.

Apple makes it easy for educators to provide this service to their students, charging $500 per year. With that, the students get an iPad, and the school gets outfitted with WiFi. The school also receives books on the system, upgrades, and train the staff. Students not only get a device that's great for note taking and research, but they also get iTunes U, with free classes and videos, which you can find on iTunes.

You can find all the education features of Apple's products here.
