The FCC has created a set of rules for what an open internet must feature. Essentially, it's Net Neutrality, and it's what we've been hoping for. With Net Neutrality, carriers wouldn't be allowed to block or throttle internet speeds based on the site you're visiting. An example is the fact that you'd be able to research Verizon's FiOS network, even if Comcast was your current provider. Because providers can not block or throttle certain websites, it means they can't charge more to access certain sites. Imagine if you had to order websites in the same way you have to order premium channels. It's quite a nightmare for consumers, but a great way to extract every penny from customers for providers.
The new laws also mean that providers would have to disclose their practices involving their network to their customers. They can't hide facts about network speed, broadband limits, or policies.
