Adobe Finally Brings Flash to iOS

Starting today, developers looking to get Flash videos on iOS devices won't have to convert them, use browser detection, or add extra effort in any way. They will, however, have to upgrade to Adobe's latest version of Flash Media Server, version 4.5. It's available now from Adobe for $4,500. A hefty price tag, but sites that see a lot of traffic (and will see more once iOS users can get on board) will be able to afford and profit from it.

Best of all, Apple didn't have to give Adobe access to their "restricted technologies". In fact, as an iOS user, you won't have to do anything at all, this was all done by Adobe. Looks as though Adobe had the tools to get Flash on iOS devices all along.

So, what does the update do? Websites using the latest Flash Media Server will be able to add Flash videos to their site, and not have to worry about whether or not it will display on an iOS device. The content will function on iOS devices, and even have technology like adaptive bit-rate, meaning it will adapt to the user's internet connection speed. For users, this means not having to worry about finding an alternative website, as the content will display automatically, as though Flash was on the iOS device. Best of all, Flash will not be on your iOS device, meaning you won't have it slowing your phone down or degrading battery life. To put it into Apple's terms, it "just works".

Expect to see this rolling out and becoming more popular in the upcoming weeks. Finally, Flash is on iOS, without the pitfalls of actually having Flash on your device. Both Apple and Adobe got their way, and everyone benefits.
